How long has Solatherm been operating?

Solatherm has been operating for over 30 years (as Sidek Industries Pty Ltd) which was founded manufacturing components for the LPG sector, the majority of car’s in Australia running on LPG have components manufactured or supplied by Sidek and still to this day is the last LPG component manufacturer in Australia. Due to the reduction in LPG popularity, it began developing technology for the hot water sector.

What is the quality like from Solatherm?

Manufacturing LPG components requires extreme strict compliance and high-quality control, this mentality continued to renewable energy technology, every nut, bolt and line of code has been scrutinized to develop the highest quality possible.

What is PV Direct?

PV Direct is the term we created that defines a product/appliance that is powered directly from PV solar modules in DC energy, and the product/appliance operates in DC Energy to create high efficiency without the energy losses that AC power presents.

What Patents do you have?

Solatherm products are protected by our solar hybrid patents that specifically designed where the product is powered directly from solar in DC energy and hybrid with a secondary power supply such as AC converted to DC to provide a stable DC power source to DC loads, such as DC motors, compressors etc.

Do you manufacture in Australia?

Yes, we do, actually our PV360 product is 100% designed and manufactured in Australia. We also partner with design and manufacture for other large Australian companies.

We try to find the balance of what we manufacture in Australia and overseas to provide quality and value for money.

What is the most efficient solar hot water available on the market today?

The evolution of thermal solar water has been very limited due to the technology restrictions of ambient temperature (commonly known maximum efficiency of ambient temperature x2, eg. 15-degree temperature will heat water to a maximum 30-degree with clear sky), with flat plate collectors being the least efficient to evacuated tube being the most efficient. Heating water with solar PV modules, removes the restrictions of ambient temperature and changes the dynamics to available light on the solar PV modules, hence increasing the efficiency and ability to heat water in all environments.

Applying this methodology with a high efficiency heat pump, increases solar water heating efficiency in all environment types regardless of ambient temperature and is hence the most efficient and cost-effective method of solar water heating to date.

Is there a benefit of replacing my thermal hot water system with a PV Direct system?

If you are familiar or own a thermal solar water heater, does your system generate solar hot water through the winter or cold periods of the year? You are very likely to answer NO and you have to rely on boost from either electric or gas for periods of Autum, Winter and Spring equating to long period of time where boosting is required.

Generally, this is also during times you have low solar PV production or battery charging which does makes matters worse. Changing to a PV Direct hot water system to achieve solar hot water throughout the entire year rather than just summer and benefiting financially is an intelligent decision.

Why would I want a PV Direct Heat pump when I already have solar?

Depending on your solar system size, house load efficiency is the key! You could install rainwater tanks but if you do not manage how you use the water, you will never have enough. In terms of energy, how you use your loads is the most important part of the equation. The most common size battery is approximately 16kW hours, which is just enough to supply the basics. Whilst batteries are essential to energy savings, the less you draw from them, the longer they will last. By having products with dedicated solar panels, you remove the large loads making equipment like inverters and batteries not work as hard and increasing longevity whilst saving you more money.

What’s the different between the Hybrid HP and PV360?

Whist both units are powered from solar panels, with similar cost and warranties, they suit different customers requirements.

The PV360 is extremely robust with no moving parts and heats the water with a DC element and operates with 6-12 solar panels. With its “divert” feature that diverts the

solar power to an inverter after it achieves 65-degree water temperature, it is the perfect system to integrate with a solar inverter/battery system.

The Hybrid HP, is so efficient that it only requires 2-4 solar panels with the added benefit that minimal AC power required to heat water. If night boosting is required,

the low power consumption adds further value whether that be low energy cost or less battery consumption.
